Blue Mountains, Katoomba, Australia
The Blue Mountains is a must day trip when visiting Sydney, only a 90 minute drive from the city center. It is one of Australia’s most beautiful natural areas made up of 7 separate National Parks and covering around 10,000 square kilometers. In November of 2000, it became Australia’s 14th World Heritage Area. It boasts spectacular natural attractions and dazzling vistas!
The Blue Mountains get their name from the natural haze created by vast forests of eucalyptus trees that give off tiny droplets of oil released from their leaves. This mist, when combined with water vapor, dust, and sunlight, produces the distinctive color.
The Three Sisters, which are sandstone peaks formed thousands of years ago as a result of erosion, are the main reason most people visit the Blue Mountains. But, there is so much more to see and explore here!
